Worms PSP
Sources inside Team17 has told me that it will blow us away! Considering that the 2D graphics in Lemmings PSP looks so good, perhaps Worms PSP will look just as good if not better?

Oh, and hi! First post. Most of you probably know me though.

2D Worms returns... I bet Wormtech will have something to say about that.

Not in 3D? That would be unusual, because the PSP is near a PS2 in power terms. Intensive, detailed calculations do eat up more battery power than simple ones, but I've seen Spider-Man 2 running on a PSP, and it looked good, so why couldn't they do a PSP W3D?
I kind of prefer 2D Worms, though. It just had more character than in 3D.

Worms 3D requiers alot more power than the PSP can offer! Sure Spider Man 2 looks good but, W3D needs ALOT of processing power because of the Poxels!manitou wrote:Not in 3D? or, more accurately, due to the fully destructable terrain. and it wouldn't be worms without that.Special K wrote:Worms 3D requiers alot more power than the PSP can offer! besides, Lemmings PSP is being 2d, so there shouldn't be a problem with a 2d worms either.

PSP can handle W3D. I'm not sure about W4, though, since the PS2 version of W4 will allready be slightly cut compared to XBox and PC versions. Nevertheless, anything that runs on PS2 can be made to run on PSP with only minor losses of quality. Also, from what I've seen so far PSP is more powerfull than the NGC, so if W3D can run on the cube, it can run on PSP.
Still, W3D would be pushing it very near the limit. I think it has been stated that no 3D Worms game is planed for the current generation of hand held systems. Besides, having something like WA, espetially with on-line support, just feels right for PSP.
Edit: I just remembered that there will be a way to play W3D and W4 on PSP. Well, kind of. Both of these games will run just fine on PS3 due to backwards compatibility, and one of the things that Sony plans to do for PSP/PS3 connectivity is to allow the PSP to work as a wireless controller and display for the PS3. So you can play your PS3 games on your PSP while not even being in the same room with the PS3. Furthermore, it is speculated that you would be able to use your PSP to play your PS3 games from a WiFi hotspot provided that both the PSP and PS3 will have sufficiently fast connection to the internet.
Of course, you'd have to wait untill Q1/Q2 of 2006 for that.

That seems rather backwards, as the NGC is more powerful than the PS2, and Sony themselves have stated that the PSP is "almost as powerful" as the PS2.K^2 wrote:Also, from what I've seen so far PSP is more powerfull than the NGC, so if W3D can run on the cube, it can run on PSP.
I've played on one, too. Definitely not as powerful as the NGC.

Cube more powerfull than PS2? Since I'm not a specialist on the GC, I'm going to let this go without arguing, but what I do know is that the Cube has less RAM, which was the main problem with running W3D on it and one of the reasons why W4 isn't going to be released for the Cube.
In any case, my statement that W3D can be made to run on PSP without signifficant quality loss, still stands.

The problem with that is that so much 3D crammed onto a screen the size of a Playing Card is going to cause no ends of problems. People complained about how difficult it was to aim on the PC/PS2/GCN/XBX, but with a screen like that it's only going to get more cramped and more difficult to aim.K^2 wrote:In any case, my statement that W3D can be made to run on PSP without signifficant quality loss, still stands.
The NGage and, to an extent, the GBA and PocketPC versions of WWP proved that the handheld market is perfect for 2D Worms, and a brilliant way for Team17 to continue developing its most successful franchise in its most popular form.

That would kick ass.
Someone, somewhere, has to be working on an Amiga emulator for the PSP (well, you can get a keyboard adapter...). When that happens, I will be playing WormsDC on the go all the live long day.
Also SuperFrog.

If I'll get a PSP and figure out how to run my own files, I might just port the UAE to it. In the mean time, a C/C++ compiler for PSP would make my life a lot easier. I know the R4000 Assembley, but lets be serious. Of course, knowing the Assembley, I could just write my own compiler... It would take a lot of time, but it would be fun.
I just got my first paycheck. Still trying to figure out if I should buy a PSP.

Man, yet another reason to buy a PSP when I win the lottery....
or when ever I have a spare $200 just laying around.
I like the 2D better, it seems more fun that way. Also with PSP's wireless thingy, perhaps there could a wormnet for it. That would be awesome. Play people from other countrys while your suppost to be doing you math work...*drools*
Nah, i'm just thinking to far in the future.
Also if it has enough power to play 3D games, and this is going to be 2D; can't we expect more wepons and terrain? I hope...

If you can read this....you're not blind.
There aren't all that many places where you can get free wireless internet from. Some hotels, airports, and a few coffee houses are an excpetion. I think, in US, some of the Borders and Starbucks locations offer free wireless. T-Mobile has a lot of hotspots, and they provide pretty good connection, but they require you to sign up for a plan that costs arround $30 per month.
At your own home, if you allready have broad-band, you can set up your own Wi-Fi hot spot. It can be done for less than $50. But you would have to be within 100 feet of your house to use it.
For the most part, you'll be using 802.11b on your PSP for ad-hoc connection with other PSP units within 100 feet of you.
