Videogames and community limericks

Post by worMatty » Wed Mar 08, 2006 11:38 pm

Evening!

Here's your chance to try out your talents at creating limericks. I've decided the topic of the limericks in this thread should be related to videogaming, our Dream17 and Worms community, and also the occasional cameo from a common interest such as Red Dwarf, or books by popular science fiction and comedy authors. Also anything that's been discussed elsewhere in the D17 board. It's a bit like Wikipedia in that a link to a page about something must exist somewhere else first. You know what I mean.

If you don't know what format a limerick should take, see here.

I'll make one to start us off.
  • 'tis truly a blessing, you know,
    That someone decided to go,
    And make us a site,
    That do be all right,
    About Team17 that don't blow.
All right, that was poor. Here's another attempt.
  • To tell you the truth, and I will,
I never once doubted the mill,
    Of ideas that's Ben's brain,
    I cannot explain,
How it works but I know that it's brill!
Also please leave your comments about the previous limericks :) Then the thread won't just be an exhibition. Feedback is important.

Engage!

Heh, those are pretty good :).

Funnily enough, I've already made one:
  • The company Team Seventeen,
Have brought many good games to our screens,
    In the computer game Worms,
    Players take it in turns,
To blow each other to smithereens!
Last line doesn't quite scan.

Here we go:
  • It's implausable, you will agree,
    To write fan-poetry about me.
    But Matt's done it today,
    And it blew me away,
'Though I'm scared that he's now stalking me.

There once was a Worm, Boggy-B,
Who got blown to pieces by me.
Before you get sad,
You shouldn't. It's mad.
He just isn't real, you see.

Heh, heh, heh, very good, all of you.

I've bought Worms games religiously,
So I own a comprehensive library.
But lately I find,
I just don't have the time,
To play them. Is it you or just me?

There once was a man called Ben Paddon,
Who (along with the one known as Mad 'Un)
Just plain would not budge
On the issue of fudge,
So I bought some Maltesers and had done.

Whee, Advance Wars limericks: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmes ... 661&page=0

(And yes, I have mentioned AWDS on this board before, so it's perfectly legit :P)

Here's the one I came up with that started it all:

Green Earth has a CO named Drake,
Who leaves armies destroyed in his wake,
He's sufficiently round,
That Tsunamis abound,
When he "cannonballs" into a lake!

The odds of Paul staying on-topic
Are verging on the microscopic
If you try to guess
What he'll talk about next
I'd say you were plainly myopic.

Nearly everyone who comes on Dream17 is actually very clever.

:D

I think that's the second limerick you've done about me:
Paul Varley's known proudly to boast
That he never makes relevent posts
But when he saw this thread
It went straight to his head
And he derailed it further than most
I actually wrote a limerick as my yearbook comment upon leaving Birchgrove Comp:

There was a young student named Paul
Who drove everyone up the wall
He was such a pain
With his huge giant brain
And his nasal Mancunian drawl

I looked for that one but couldn't find it. I think I prefer the new one anyway.
