2006 wrapped up + Worms 360 screenshots!

Link to Worms XBL screenshots at the bottom of this newspost!

Spadge has just updated the Team17 Forum with this news item:

"Well, that just about wraps up 2006 for Team17. It's been probably one of our busiest and actually most successful years for some time, setting us up for a great 2007. Because of this, I appreciate we've not really been around on the forum so much and been fairly tight on information regarding what we're up to, which to be honest, is a commercial necessity!

There's a lot of talk right now about Worms for 360 Live Arcade and I'm pleased to say that you shouldn't have to wait very much longer for (a) an official announcement and (b) the game itself, which is in the last few days of testing (and is also on Partnernet for wider testing)

News of it's arrival date, full feature list and cost will be announced in the early part of 2007 and given the speculation, hopes and wishes of most of the comments we've seen, most players should be really happy.

Team17 are working on a bunch of stuff right now, next-gen, handheld, wii, PC and digital-platform stuff... keep an eye out for it in 2007 and we'll let you know more when we can Smile

Good news as far as Worms 360 is concerned, and even moreso for the next year. Team 17 are going to be busy indeed...

Update: Bonz has just emailed me a link to a French website containing the first screenshots of Worms for Xbox Live Arcade. It's looking very much like Worms: Open Warfare, too. Check it out.

S-2k on Xbox Live
Posted in Archived by Squirminator2k at 28/12/06 9:34pm CET

It's come to my attention that there is someone on Xbox Live with my name, squirminator2k, as their gamertag. It needs to be made clear that this is not me. I don't have an Xbox yet, and I was planning on getting one. Looks like I'll need a new tag. Bugger.

Just so you know.

New 2D Worms for PC in 2007? And Worms XBL update
Posted in Archived by Squirminator2k at 28/12/06 3:51pm CET

Martyn Brown has, I think, excelled himself in his ability to give horrendously vague answers. I can't really blame him - Team 17 has agreements all over the place with various partners and companies, so he says what he can. Except sometimes he doesn't even do that, but I digress.

Over on the Team17 Forum, someone by the name of |Dark| has asked "I want a new 2D Worms for PC too, you really wanna let the PC-community play a game from 1998 for all time?" to which Spadge has responded simply:

2007 will be interesting.

This could be interpreted one of two ways. Either the "No" means, "No, we're not making another 2D Worms game for the PC," or "No, we're not just going to let people play a game released nearly ten years ago," which may well mean that a new 2D Worms game could be released some time next year.

Or it could simply mean "No." That's the problem with vague statements - they're vague.

Thanks to Bonz for passing this info our way.

Meanwhile, on the Worms for XBox Live Arcade front, Spadge confirmed following a question regarding PR for Arcade releases that they are "However, we're about to move into top gear..." (source) suggesting that we may hear some actual publicity for the game fairly soonish.

Lemmings nominated for Best Puzzle Game award
Posted in Archived by Squirminator2k at 27/12/06 12:41am CET

Lemmings has been nominated for the Best Puzzle category for the 2006 1UP Awards, and the best part is that the winner is decided by readers' votes. Head on over and show your support for Team17's cracking remake of a gaming classic.

What's your vector, Victor?
Posted in Archived by Squirminator2k at 19/12/06 1:00pm CET

We're sorted for vector logos now, so thanks to everyone who offered to help us out in that department. It's unlikely we'll get any merch up before Christmas (at least, not in time for you to receive it before Christmas day) but we'll hopefully have some shirts and such ready for the new year.

Thanks again, everyone.

Your voices have been heard!
Posted in Archived by Squirminator2k at 15/12/06 8:03pm CET

I have been absolutely inundated with response to the recent announcement that Dream17 is in need of assistance. I've had tons of emails of support, a few donations (we're just over the £50 mark at the moment), four offers from people offering to host the site for us, and two offers from people who are capable of getting a Vector version of the site logo knocked together for some Dream17 merchandise. I have always been of the impression that interest in this website was minimal, as we don't generally get many comments and the forum is practically dead. But judging by the emails I've had... well, my gob is well and truly smacked Very Happy or Laughing

I think it's safe to say that the future of Dream17 is utterly secure for now, and I thank you for your kind words and donations and so forth. Right now my advice to you is to stop donating. We'll get the logo sorted out sooner rather than later and maybe you'll be able to grab a Dream17 tee-shirt or something before Christmas.

Thanks again for the support - you lot are phenomenal!

QWAK for the GBA is now available, although why Jamie's releasing it this side of Christmas is mystifying.

You can get it here if you have any money left.

Dream17 needs your help...
Posted in Archived by Squirminator2k at 13/12/06 1:31am CET

At the moment, Dream17 is very generously hosted on a server maintained by our resident Worms Correspondent, Cyclaws. However at some point during next year, Cyclaws will be shutting his server down because, well, he can't afford it. And understandably so, seeing as Dream17 is the biggest thing he currently hosts, and it's huge. Very huge. If you saw our bandwidth usage each month you'd wince.

Which is why we're now asking for your help. At some point next year, Dream17 will once again be moving servers. For the first time since its inception nearly three years ago, someone will have to actually pay for its hosting. As this is a project I operate in my spare time and I currently don't make any profit from it, I don't know if I can afford to pay out of my own pocket for it, at least not in the long haul. This is why we need two things to happen.

The first thing, and this is a priority, is that we need someone to help us come up with some merchandise. I've dabbled in this before, but most online store places need vector art files and I've always worked with pixels. Vector art is totally out of my depth. At the very least I need someone willing to convert our logo into a vector file so that we can begin using it as a basis for all sorts of crazy rubbish.

The second thing we need is for people to actually start clicking the Paypal "donate" button up the top there. Honestly, it's actually gathering dust at the moment. We get less than £10 worth of donations a year. I never started this site with the intention of making a profit, and that £10 quite happily covers the cost of the domain, but times they are a-changin'.

If you're able to help us vectorfy our logo, drop me an email and we'll get talking. In the meantime, please help us out by donating. The last thing I want to see is this website vanishing into the ether, and I know that you'd hate to see that to.

Worms HD Release 'not far away'
Posted in Archived by Squirminator2k at 11/12/06 8:49am CET

THis morning, again on the Team 17 Forum, Martyn Brown explained a little more about the Xbox Live "Certification passes" and where Worms HD is on that list:

"360 XBLA has about 4 certification passes, pre-code complete, code-complete, localisation complete and ZBR (not sure what this is). We're almost at the last, which should be the quickest. All this takes months. It's been feature complete for a few months now and we've been bug-fixing along the way, not that there were many at all - mostly just what we have to do on 360 (controls, buttons, messages, looking after errors etc). The release is not far away now and we're pretty excited about that. We should be able to talk more openly about it soon enough."

QWAK Advance may be available before Christmas
Posted in Archived by Squirminator2k at 08/12/06 8:20pm CET

The second QWAK GBA e-newsletter has gone out, containing this very snazzy information:
"There has been fantastic interest in QWAK, many thanks to Games TM magazine, who did an interview with me in their mag. I have recieved loads of good feedback about the game, and it seems many of you want it ... and you will definately be able to have it ... soon.

I hope to have the Carts ready for shipping by the end of next week, that is if all goes smoothly of course. So you may even get QWAK for Christmas after all.

Pricing has also been announced:

"£15 - 1 Cartridge (including FREE postage and packaging)
£27 - 2 Cartridges (including FREE postage and packaging)
£38 - 3 Cartridges (including FREE postage and packaging)

The free postage includes International orders. I think you'll all agree that this is absolutely fantastic news, and I am glad to see that QWAK Advance has seen so much positive interest. To subscribe to the mailing list yourself, check out the

I have had an email asking why QWAK Advance has not appeared on our Softography+. The simple answer is that, like the BBC Micro edition that came before the Amiga release, QWAK Advance hasn't been developed or published by Team 17. That doesn't mean to say that we're not excited. Pooka wrote a preview for RealVG, our "sister site" of sorts, and while he raised a few concerns with the demo, he's just as excited about the GBA release as I am (although I expect he'd be more excited at the prospect of a portable Superfrog game...).

Lemmings 2 out for PS3 tomorrow in US
Posted in Archived by Squirminator2k at 07/12/06 1:51am CET

According to semi-reputable gaming website IGN, PlayStation 3 users will be able to download Lemmings 2 from tomorrow. It does now appear that Lemmings 2 is the game's official title, much to the chagrin of Lemmings purists (despite the fact that Lemmings 2: The Tribes was actually the third official Lemmings game).

No word on the Japanese release yet. Expect the European release to coincide with the launch of the console itself.
