Getting Worms and WormsDC working in WinUAE
Posted in Retrogaming by Squirminator2k at 31/01/07 9:55pm CET

I don't know about you, but I've been having all sorts of problems getting Worms - The Directors Cut working under recent builds of WinUAE. Fortunately I appear to have found the solution.

Open WinUAE and go to the configuration you usually use for playing WormsDC. Load it, but don't go into emulation just yet. Instead, go to the "CPU" options. Untick the JIT box, and tick the "More accurate FPU" and "More compatible" boxes. Then save this configuration with an alternative name - something really original and clever like "WormsDC.uae" will probably do.

This seems to work, although it doesn't unfortunately fix the problems I've been having getting the original Worms working.

Update: It appears that this modification also works if you boot the original Worms from the IPF floppy. It runs out of Chip memory when you try to do it from a virtual Hard Drive install. I've yet to try the CD32 version and in fact I don't have the means to at the moment - if anyone wants to give it a go and get back to me please do.

Update II: Right, we now finally have screenshots of the Amiga version of Worms.

Worms XBLA due for February release
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 31/01/07 3:41pm CET

Shacknews is reporting that Worms for Xbove Live Arcade will be released some time in February, along with other titles such as Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Paperboy, and an HD version of the ever awesome Alien Hominid. This news apparently came directly from Microsoft itself, so it's great to finally see some kind of concrete information regarding Worms' release.

Patches removed for 3D Worms games
Posted in Archived by Squirminator2k at 30/01/07 8:59pm CET

The Worms 3D and Worms 4: Mayhem patches have proven to be quite popular, as has the newly available ISO of Super Stardust CD32. We've used over 25% of our bandwidth allocation since the patches were reinstated and the ISO made available, so to help curb things slightly I've taken the patches down. The ISO remains for the time being, however the high demand for these items may mean we'll have to remove them until we can get new hosting sorted out.

At this point I wish to ask those of you who contacted me with regards to donating server space to Dream17 to get back in touch. I've not had replies to any of my emails. Failing that I have begun "window shopping" for a new server. Dream17 has to move this year, if not because the server will be going down then to give us more bandwidth so you guys can download to your hearts content.

I don't want to see this site become suddenly unavailable because we've reached our bandwidth limit, so I hope to find a solution soon.

Lemmings PS3 in the UK
Posted in Archived by Squirminator2k at 25/01/07 1:57pm CET

As the European launch date for the PS3 has been announced as March 28th, it's likely that Lemmings PS3 will be released in the UK either on that day or not long afterwards.

GamesTM Special Feature
Posted in Archived by Squirminator2k at 24/01/07 4:25pm CET

This month's GamesTM, due to hit the shelves tomorrow, features a 29-page special on the Amiga, including a reprint of Ashley Day's "The Making of Worms" article, and an "Amiga Legends" Roundtable interview featuring Martyn Brown, as well as other names from the glorious days of the Amiga. Definitely worth a read, then.

Also! We've uplaoded a few more screenshots for Worms, Worms Armageddon, Worms World Party, and Worms Blast. Mostly, they're screenshots from various versions of the games, but we realised we had been rather criminal in that we've never had any screenshots of the original Worms at all! We've sorted that out for the most part, althoguh the Amiga screenshots are limited to just the one as I can't seem to get the game working past the Team Select screen. If anyone is able to help us out in that department do drop me a line.

Oh, and the entries for Lemmings PSP and Lemmings PS2 (EyeToy Enhanced) have now been amalgamated into a single entry, which makes more sense to me.

Worms Live Arcade still in certification
Posted in Archived by Squirminator2k at 22/01/07 2:12am CET

Martyn Brown reports over on his blog that Worms for Xbox Live Arcade is "still in certification process Neutral" (emphasis mine), which leaves me asking why Microsoft are still sitting on this. Are the guys down in Certification just having too much of a good time to put the game on the Arcade Store, or what?

When it's out, we'll let you know. Sigh.

Edit: We know the wait for Worms Live Arcade is driving you nuts, so here's the Achievements list for the game to tide you over. Also, Wikipedia has the game listed under the name Worms: Defeat. I'm currently investigating whether or not that is the actual title for the game.

Screenshots galore
Posted in Archived by Squirminator2k at 22/01/07 1:40am CET

I've just uploaded a bumper load of screenshots for some games that have been neglected. Firstly we have Stunt GP, with screenshots kindly provided by Bonz. Next we have a selection of Army Men: Major Malfunction screenshots.

Finally, we have a very special treat. We've been able to get hold of some screenshots from Total Wormage, which you may well know was the original development name of Worms. These screenshots can be found at the very bottom of Worms' Xtras page, so do tuck in. They really are something special.

WA BETA Update News
Posted in Archived by Squirminator2k at 18/01/07 10:23pm CET

CyberShadow has posted some information on the Team17 Forum regarding the next planned BETA update for Worms Armageddon. I would advise anyone with even a passing interest in the game to have a read.

Sprechen Sie Deutsch?
Posted in Archived by Squirminator2k at 12/01/07 7:19pm CET

This year we will be totally overhauling the look and feel of Dream17, and one of the things we are considering is incorporating a German Translation. It'd be a big addition to add to the site, but we do get a lot of traffic from Germany and we also link to a couple of German sites, so it just seems like a natural step to make.

We wouldn't be doing a straight Babelfish/Google translation, either - we have contacts in Germany, people who would be able to translate the site to actual, readable German.

The question is this: would our visitors benefit from a German translation? We're very much interested in hearing what you guys think about this idea, so drop us an email or leave a comment on this newspost and let us know what you think.

Minor Maintenance
Posted in Archived by Squirminator2k at 09/01/07 4:39pm CET

We're currently in the process of backing up our files, which means you might experience slightly slower-than-usual performance of the website. It also means if you're downloading any of the larger files such as CD ISOs your download might be disrupted. It's not likely, but I figure it would be best to warn you.

Worms Armageddon 'Worst Shot Ever' Awards 2007
Posted in Archived by Squirminator2k at 09/01/07 2:29pm CET

Run has put together a little "award" of sorts called the "Worms Armageddon Annual Awards for Atrocious Gameplay", where you can upload a Worms Armageddon replay and nominate a shot for one of its categories. I love stuff like this, and I have in fact nominated a terrible shot made last night by former WorMatriX Staffmember ChazmaN.

Check out the awards site and maybe nominate a terrible shot yourself, if you have a suitably horrible replay to upload.

Worms 4 Customisation
Posted in Archived by Squirminator2k at 08/01/07 5:43pm CET

K^2 on the forum has in the past created some interesting tools for Worms3D and Worms 4: Mayhem and the latest such tool appears to be a 3D model importer/exporter. It's in the early stages, as is often the case, but it's looking very promising. Have a look at the forum thread for more info.

Mobile Phone game requests
Posted in Archived by Squirminator2k at 06/01/07 12:44am CET

We've spotted a couple of comments from people wanting free copies of currently available Mobile Phone games. These comments will be deleted. If you wish to purchase any of Team 17's mobile titles you can do so on the THQ Wireless website.

As a reminder, Dream17 does NOT condone videogame piracy of any sort. We're all in favour of the chaps from Pirates of the Caribbean, though. That film is brilliant.

Worms Live Arcade radio silence
Posted in Archived by Squirminator2k at 04/01/07 11:23pm CET

Wow. Worms HD certainly is proving popular, and it hasn't even been released yet! Martyn Brown has made this announcement on the Team 17 Forum:

"We accept that there's been incredible interest in Worms for 360 Live Arcade.

In working with our publishing partners we are making no further comment until our official announcement, we thank you for your patience and understanding and look forward to the title's release as eagerly as you.

I appreciate that there's been a lot of reporting on 3rd party news sites and forums - not to mention discussion here - and hope you'll bear with us.
"

Looks like unless there's another leak we won't have anything to report on the Worms HD front, but we will keep you posted should anything pop up.

Worms HD video - see the game in action
Posted in Archived by Squirminator2k at 04/01/07 12:55am CET

The following video had been placed online at GameTrailers.com but it's since been taken down, possibly because it was put up too early. Fortunately for us someone managed to get it up onto YouTube and while it's been squished from it's original widescreen aspect ratio (as well as looking a bit cack compression-wise) here's the first available video of Worms HD in action:

Team 17 Forum down
Posted in Archived by Squirminator2k at 02/01/07 12:46pm CET

The Team 17 Forum appears to be down due to a vBulletin database error. No word yet on when it will be back up and running, or indeed how long it's been down for. We'll keep you updated.

Our forum is, of course, still up and running if you wish to use it in the interim.

EDIT: And now it's back up.

Happy New Year!
Posted in Archived by Squirminator2k at 01/01/07 1:51pm CET

The title of this entry speaks for itself, but it needs saying, doesn't it? Happy New Year to all of our visitors worldwide.

Where does the time go, eh? 2007 looks to be a very important year for Team 17 and by extension that makes it important for us here, too. It means we should hopefully have plenty of news ahead to cover. We also have Dream17's third birthday coming up at the start of March and we have a couple of tricks up our sleeve to celebrate.

Here's a great 2007.
