another server move
Posted in Dream17 by Squirminator2k at 28/04/07 9:26am CEST

Dream17 is likely to be moving servers again some time within the next month. I've been putting it off, largely because I don't want the fuss of having to move all of the files to a new server again, for what seems like the fifth or sixth time this year, but we can't really put it off any further. We have fiels we're allowed to share, but that our hosts, Heart Internet, won't allow us to.

Files like the CD32 versions of Worms and Super Stardust. Files like the Worms 4: Mayhem patch. Files that Dream17 has proudly been able to offer you until Heart Internet, with their "unlimited bandwidth", deemed unacceptable because of their high bandwidth use.

I have two hosting offers I am very strongly considering taking up. Both are very, very good - certainly better than Heart are doing. I'll update you when things get going.

Parachute Joust content added
Posted in Site Content by Squirminator2k at 27/04/07 12:02pm CEST

I've been exceedingly lazy over the years with regards to the 17-Bit Software titles in our Softography+, and I'm going to start remedying this this. I've started things off by adding screenshots and, yes, ADF disk images for Parachute Joust and Doctor Strange 2: The Return of Doctor Strange.

I intend to add more titles to the 17-Bit listing as I discover them, so if you have any information about these old titles (disk images would be handy) drop me an email and let me know.

PS3 update of Super Stardust in development
Posted in Retrogaming by Squirminator2k at 27/04/07 1:35am CEST

The original developer of enhanced Asteroids clone Super Stardust is working on a PS3 update, according to Games-Digest.com. 1UP.com has a few screenshots to look at. It looks rather nice so far, if a bit busy.

Thanks to the English Amiga Board for this news nugget (and for wishing me a happy 21st birthday).

Commodore Gaming store launches
Posted in Retrogaming by Squirminator2k at 23/04/07 6:37pm CEST

Commodore Gaming's online store has gone live today, albeit in the UK and Ireland only for the time being. a European opening is due some time in May. No word on a US opening so far, which means I may not get my swanky new Commodore PC after all Sad

From the press release:

"The online store will supply the higher specification models Commodore gx and Commodore xx, while the Commodore g and Commodore gs range will be made available in retail outlets. Commodore Gaming machines are priced competitively for such high spec components and hand-finished build quality:

Commodore gx - £1759 (inc VAT)
Commodore xx - £2899 (inc VAT)

(Above prices include buyers choice of C-kin case artwork)

Commodore Gaming has also confirmed that customers will be able to customise aspects of their gaming PC, offering a customized interior and exterior. All components can be selected to build a personal specification on each machine.

Commodore Gaming now offers over 100 unique "C-kins" designs in their online store, each case being artistically painted using a patented dye process (unique to Commodore Gaming) and individually finished with a scratch proof surface usually reserved for the automotive industry.
"

I'm glad to see the Commodore brand alive and kicking again.

Welcome aboard, Bonz!
Posted in Dream17 by Squirminator2k at 21/04/07 2:41pm CEST

Remember how I'd said we weren't looking to fill the role of "Worms Correspondent"? Well, I wasn't lying. But we have taken on a new Staff member - Bonz. You may have seen him about on the Team 17 Forum. He's a top-notch guy, and he keeps a keen eye over everything Team 17, specifically relating to the WA Beta Updates. He's probably most famous for jumping into threads purely to make a joke about Spadge's beer consumption before stealing away into the cover of darkness. It is these skills that we hope will benefit Dream17, and we welcome him to the team.

Welcome him.

Oh No! Not More WOW2 Info!
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 21/04/07 2:38pm CEST

THQ updated their internal Press Site with even more information about Worms Open Warfare 2 so we've done the sensible thing and copied + pasted large chunks of it into our Softography+ entry.

We've also got a fairly large version of the WOW2 logo up as a temporary boxart image. It's almost as if we're organised or something...

WOW2 DS being developed externally
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 20/04/07 3:13pm CEST

So it appears that the DS version of Worms Open Warfare 2 is being developed in partnership between Team 17 and a company called Two Tribes, based in Holland. According to Spadge, Two Tribes were the team behind the N-Gage version of Worms World Party, which is widely felt to be the definitive handheld Worms title (at least, by the seven people who owned an N-Gage).

Two Tribes look to be doing a much better job this time around, and I'm looking forward to seeing the results, as well as seeing how they compare to the PSP version.

More WOW2 info
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 19/04/07 7:01pm CEST

We've updated our Softography+ entry for Worms Open Warfare 2 with more information, including improved customisation.

I have to say, the DS version looks very swanky when compared to that of the original. Also, the fact that both the PSP and DS versions will feature online wifi play is perhaps the best news I've heard concerning this title. Fantastic news, even.

Worms Open Warfare 2 release announced
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 18/04/07 9:44pm CEST

THQ and Team 17 have officially announced that Worms Open Warfare 2 will be released for both the DS and the PSP this August. Spadge pointed to the official website, which doesn't appear to work in Firefox for some reason - it works in IE, which is a bit weird as it's just a Flash website. I imagine THQ will fix that eventually.

More information will follow soon, but it looks like both versions will feature online wifi play. Superb!

CYclaws steps down
Posted in Dream17 by Squirminator2k at 14/04/07 1:21pm CEST

Cyclaws has informed me that he will unfortunately be stepping down as our Worms Correspondent due to a lack of time. I'm currently undecided as to whether or not we need someone else to step into his shoes, so we'll take it easy for now and see how things go.

You can read about Cyclaws' latest goings-on by visiting his blog.

Worms XBLA update... update...
Posted in Worms by Cyclaws at 12/04/07 9:39pm CEST

The update is now in the hands of the testers, so we can expect it in the next few weeks. Spadge says he'll have more information on this, and the DLC content in a week or so.

iBar opening night
Posted in T17 Staff & Former Staff by Squirminator2k at 05/04/07 9:17pm CEST

If you're in Bournemouth, then... well, you're probably not reading this, really. If you've got any common sense you'll be at the opening night of ibar, Andy Davidson's new bar for the 21st century. And if you're not there, then... well, you're here. Or possibly not here. Maybe you're somewhere else. Maybe something else took precident, something more important than the opening of a really snazzy-looking bar.

In closing, if you're in Bournemouth then you really should be at the ibar about now. Really. Go.

Team 17 31st most successful company in the world

According to Develop100, Team 17 are the 31st most successful videogame developer in the world. Martyn Brown says, "that puts us (by my reckoning) in the top 10 independent (i.e. not publisher owned) studios in the world... and 5th top indy in the UK."

Well done Team 17!

Worms: Open Warfare
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 04/04/07 7:20pm CEST

Hey, if the BBC can stick unnecessary quotation marks in their news headlines, so can I.

Martyn Brown (Spadge, obv.) mentioned on his blog today that a follow-up to Worms: Open Warfare is in development.

"News is spilling out about an upcoming handheld version of Worms (a follow up to Open Warfare) which will be out in the Summer - not much I can say about that until THQ's PR machine have had their say, but it's all good Smile

I know people think all we do is Worms, but that's not really the case, honest! It just seems that way when other projects are unannounced.
"

No word yet on any of the new game's content, but it's probably safe to assume that it contains new weapons and is probably based on the same code (Still) as W:OW and Worms XBLA.

Aprils Fools!
Posted in Dream17 by Squirminator2k at 01/04/07 6:11pm CEST

Yes, it was a joke. Our site didn't go down last night, we haven't removed the ADFs and IPFs (as a couple of mouse-clicks would've revealed!) and we're certainly not closing down anytime soon. In fact we added some new unreleased titles to the Softography+ not an hour ago! The sad thing is that the risk of having our ADFs and IPFs forcibly removed by the host is, in fact, a genuine one - they haven't asked us to yet, but given their rather fabulous track record I wouldn't put it past them. Still, as my Mum says, the best tricks are based on fact.

I'm aware that the cut-off for April Fool's Day is usually midday here in the UK, but since when have we ever stood on tradition, eh?

Hosts to Dream17: Take them all down
Posted in Dream17 by Squirminator2k at 01/04/07 11:36am CEST

I was hoping this wouldn't happen, but late last night I received an email from Adam, the friend I purchased the webspace for Dream17 from earlier this year, saying that our hosts have taken issue with our collection of ADFs and IPFs. He'd had a similar argument with them about our CD32 ISOs a month ago - first Heart insisted the files were illegal. Then when we were able to provide evidence that Team 17 had authorised the files they still told us that we were in breach of their terms and conditions, although they refused to stipulate which ones.

You might have noticed Dream17 going offline late last night. This is because they demanded we take the files down. Unfortunately we've had to comply.

So that's it, then. Dream17 has lost one of the core elements that make it unique. I've officially had enough. Every time I try to do something for the communities that enjoy this site, I hit a wall. It's become tedious and tiresome, and I no longer wish to have to put up with it.

That's why I'm sad to announce that this will be Dream17's final update. We will no longer be updating the site with information on Team 17's latest games, nor will we be trying to get the files back. So this is what you should do: let Dream17 die.

Just let this old site gather dust. No one can open it; no one will even notice it. Let it become a strange little thing standing on a web server. And over the years, the world will move on and the site will be buried. And if you wanna remember it, then you can do one thing. That's all. One thing: Have a good life. Do that for me, readers. Have a fantastic life.
