Worms XBLA DLC arriving May 30th
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 26/05/07 5:14pm CEST

According to this fantastic T17 Forum post by Team 17 staffer "Pickles", as well as the Latest News page on, the downloadable content for Worms XBLA will be made available on Wednesday 30th [at] 9:00am GMT.

There will be three new landscape themes available - Hell (150 Points), Jungle (150 Points), and Space (free) - as well as a 360 Dashboard Theme (150 Points), Gamer Pictures (100 Points for a 5-pack, 200 Points for a 12-pack), and a free Speechbank pack. Unfortunately the list of Speechbanks doesn't include my personal favourite, "Team17 Test". Oh well.

The aforementioned thread appears to have turned into a debate concerning Xbox Live DLC content pricing, which is worth a read (and perhaps even worth contributing towards, if you're registered there).

Worms Birthday Cake Photos
Posted in Fan Stuff by Squirminator2k at 26/05/07 3:34pm CEST

You may remember that Kotaku recently posted a picture of a Worms birthday cake which looked utterly fantastic. Well we received an email from Stuart Wright, who made the cake, offering us more pictures of the cake. Naturally we said yes, and Stuart sent them on to me last night. Here they are, in all their majesty.

You can, of course, click the pictures to enlarge.

Worms XBLA downloadable content arriving on a Friday
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 25/05/07 4:53pm CEST

So apparently I misinterpreted Spadge's blog. The DLC announcement is being made on Wednesday, with the actual content being made available on "a Friday." Which Friday, specifically, we don't know.

Worms XBLA update, DLC, leaderboard wipe
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 21/05/07 10:02pm CEST

SPadge has posted some info about the Worms XBLA update coming out this Wednesday, as well as some additional info about downloadable content. You can read the blog entry, or, if you're lazy, you can read this newspost instead.

As the Ranked Scheme is going to be adjusted come the update this Wednesday, the Leaderboards are being completely wiped. Not one to let people lose their glory, Team 17 are currently in the process of sending out signed awards to the top-ranking players, so they will at least have something to prove their awesomeness.

Downloadable Content will become available next Wednesday. No word yet on what, exactly, that content will be.

WinUAE 1.4.2a now available, fixes some WormsDC issues
Posted in Amiga Emulation by Squirminator2k at 20/05/07 10:19pm CEST

I found out today that the latest build of WinUAE has been available for a week now, and it seems to fix the "freeze and stutter" glitch that occurs when running Worms: The Director's Cut. However it has given rise to an entirely new problem.

The game now runs less than smoothly on my computer (P4 1.8Ghz processor, GeForce FX 5200, 512MB of RAM). Before the "freeze and stutter" glitch developed, the game ran fine save for some minor graphics glitches. Now it barely runs at all. Andy Davidson has previously informed me that WormsDC really does push the AGA chipset rather hard:

" pushed the AGA chipset very hard indeed, and getting it to look that good was a right struggle. That's the reason for the incorrect sprite colours in the emulated version by the way, WormsDC took advantage of the AGA chipset running out of bandwidth because of how hard it was being pushed. When it started running out of bandwidth you got 'interesting' results, which sometimes came in useful. WormsDC used lots of tricks. Because of all this, it's just very special to me."

So with this in mind, we may never get the game 100% accurately emulated in WinUAE. Which is a real shame.

Worms Open Warfare 2 Concrete Donkey Video
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 18/05/07 12:40pm CEST

THQ have released a video of the Concrete Donkey in action:

It seems a little slow-moving in comparison to the Donkey's appearances in Worms - The Director's Cut onwards. You can download the video in WMV format here should you feel the need.

According to a recent blog post by Spadge, the eagerly-awaited update for Worms XBLA is due to hit Xbox Live on Wednesday 23rd May, which is good news for those of you who have been complaining about those little niggles in the game.

The update fixes a number of minor issues, including the "People trying to connect after the game is full" glitch, the jammy AI grenade shots, and the fixed mine fuse. It also fixes a large list of Other Things, which you can read by clicking here.

Worms Open Warfare DS for £12.75

Eagle-eyed pricewatch blog SavyGamer is reporting that you can snag the original Worms Open Warfare for £12.75 from You can find the product here priced £13.75, and get a further £1 off from this page.

The DS version of WOW, developed by GameSauce, isn't particularly good - especially when compared to the in-house developed PSP version - but it's a good opportunity to get some DS Worms action before the release of Two Tribes DS port of Worms Open Warfare 2.

Worms Open Warfare 2 Interview
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 04/05/07 10:28am CEST

There's an interesting interview with Kevin Carthew, Lead Designer of Worms Open Warfare 2 DS, over at

The interview contains lovely little snippets of information. Information on the new online modes (ropers will be pleased to know that Race modes are an actual play type in online games), how the new weapons work, and a variety of other bits and bobs are discussed. It's definitely worth a read.
