No deadline on Superfrog NES Challenge
Posted in Fan Stuff by Squirminator2k at 26/09/07 6:35pm CEST

I've had a couple of people ask me if there is a deadline on the Port Superfrog to the NES Challenge. There is no deadline - it's First Come, First Prize.

I've also had one cheeky monkey ask if there's a potential Cash Prize, to which I reply: I'm not made of money! Very Happy or Laughing I am however trying to get something nice lined up for a potential winner. At the very least there's a copy of Worms Open Warfare 2 for the system of your choice, but I'm also trying to sort out something else to make all of that effort worthwhile. Watch this space, and get coding!

DVD covers for Worms2 and Worms Armageddon
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 24/09/07 11:11pm CEST

If you fancy putting your copies of Worms 2 or Worms Armageddon in a proper DVD case with a nice-looking sleeve, I've prepared a couple of covers which you can print out (on glossy paper, preferably) and use. You can find them, complete with instructions, on the Team17 Forum using the following links:

Official Editors and Mission Packs for Worms World Party
Posted in Site Content by Bonz at 24/09/07 5:09pm CEST

I added the official Worms World Party mission editor and speechbank editor, as well as the three official mission packs to the Worms World Party download section.
The reason is that on Team17's official Worms World Party several links to these were dead.

I'll be adding more content for Worms World Party and other Team17 games later.
These were only the most essential files.

Worms Armageddon Desktop Theme & Greenpepper high resolution DVD cover
Posted in Site Content by Bonz at 23/09/07 9:21pm CEST

I have added the official Worms Armageddon desktop theme to the Worms Armageddon download section.
It was previously only available from the Team17 FTP server, but hasn't been linked on the official Worms Armageddon page.

Note that it's a Windows 9x theme that only works with Plus! installed. It probably won't work on other systems.
You can still use the wallpaper, animated cursors, icons and sounds separately to customize your hardcore fan Worms Desktop. Very Happy or Laughing

Also, I updated the large version of the Greenpepper DVD cover with a higher resolution image.

Programming Challenge throwdown: Superfrog for the NES
Posted in Fan Stuff by Squirminator2k at 13/09/07 7:58pm CEST

Inspired by Dream17 Forum regular bucky o hare's rather excellent Superfrog NES chiptune Medlies, I've decided to throw down the gauntlet to the game programmers of the world who may come across this website. The challenge: port Superfrog to the NES.

There are some rules that have to be adhered to:

  • The game must work in a NES emulator. Ideally, it must also work on an actual NES, but I have no way of checking that Smile

  • There must be at least 2 fully playable worlds from the original game. Any more than that will earn bonus points.

  • The original sprites must be used, although you can obviously reduce the color and limit/recycle sprites for levels if necessary. The HUD can also be simplified if need be.

  • The physics must be as close to the Amiga version as possible. Oh, and the Wings power-up must work as it does in the Amiga version, not the MS-DOS version!

  • There must be sound of some sort, be it blips and bloops of sound effects, music, or both. I don't know if bucky o hare wants to get involved in that area, I guess that's largely up to him.

  • I will definitely reward the first successful programmer with a prize of some sort - maybe a copy of Worms Open Warfare 2 or something. There's no deadline here either, so take as long as you need. The first person to submit a fully working port, well, wins. Good luck!

Edit: Potential programmers may find NESHLA useful. Thanks to Monkeyforahead for the... uh... heads up.

Further information: A couple of people have asked if there is a deadline on this challenge. There is no deadlien - it's First Come, First Prize.

    Dream17 Forum reshuffle
Posted in Site Content by Squirminator2k at 08/09/07 7:57am CEST

The Dream17 Forum has undergone a massive reshuffling in an attempt to make it look less daunting. Here's an outline of the details, or deetz as the kids today tend to call them. Or not.

  • The News and Announcements Board is gone. So is the super-secret Staff Only Forum you probably didn't know existed. We weren't really using either of these.

  • Amiga Classics, Fan Stuff and Games Discussion have all been rolled into one forum. It's called Games Discussion. You'll get used to it.

  • Pretty much everything else bar the Worms-specific boards are now Open Discussion. Everything, including content from The Vault, is now Open Discussion. Use it to chat about whatever.

  • Darth Vader is no longer Luke Skywalker's father. C3P0 is. Please amend your view of Star Wars canon accordingly.

  • As a nasty side-effect, pre-existing threads aren't being shown in order of latest post. It does appear to be very randomly organised. Threads people will post in should appear at the top of the list as normal, as will new threads, but expect funky chronological ordering for the old threads.

  • Hopefully that makes things a lot simpler, and is less off-putting to new visitors.

IGN Worms: A Space Oddity Interview + Screenshots
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 07/09/07 1:13am CEST

IGN have posted an interview with Karl Gilbert from Team17, alongside screenshots of the new title which looks superficially like the PSP version of Worms Open Warfare 2. Our suspicions were confirmed - it is, in fact, a brand new 2D Worms title, the first to be released for a home console in six years!

More information as we have it.

    Online imposters!
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 05/09/07 8:34pm CEST

It appears as though someone is playing on Worms Armageddon's WormNET claiming to be Andy Davidson. Furthermore he appears to be making claims that a new 2D Worms title is in the works. It's unlikely to be Andy himself, as he parted ways with Team17 in 1999, shortly after the release of WA, and has had no direct involvement with the development of any Worms games since then. If Team17 are working on a new 2D Worms title it is unlikely (although not impossible) that Andy would be involved in its development as it appears he didn't leave T17 on good terms. Even so, Andy likely has his hands full with the ibar at the moment.

In addition to this, Martyn Brown (Team17's Creative Director, as you may know) has reported someone playing using his name on the DS version, which is currently impossible as his copy of the DS version hasn't arrived yet.

As a rule, I'd advise taking anythin people say online with a pinch of salt. If they claim to be Andy Davidson, or Spadge, or David Duchovny, or David Tennant, just nod and smile and get on with the game. Chances are you're playing some pimple-faced pre-pubescent attention-seeker with nothing better to do.

US release date unchanged - Amazon getting late shipment
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 02/09/07 6:19pm CEST

Having done some investigative work, it appears that the American release date for Worms Open Warfare 2 has gone unchanged. In fact it appears that Amazon.com are the only company who have changed their day, which is roughly two weeks after everyone else has theirs. Best Buy still list the release date for both versions (DS and PSP) as September 6th while GameStop lists their release date at the 4th. I would advise against American customers placing their order with GameStop as they have done a magnificent job of ensuring I can't give them any of my money either online or in their retail outlets, and would encourage our US-based readers to visit either their local independent videogame store, or to make their purchase at Best Buy.

There are a number of reasons why Amazon.com may be getting their shipment later than everyone else, ranging from stock issues with the distributor to an outstanding debt owed by Amazon to THQ. Either way, most games make the majority of their money during the first two weeks of their release, and as Amazon.com are rather stupidly not releasing the game during those two weeks, they're not likely to make much of a profit from the sale of WOW2. Ho hum.
