Worms World Party Remastered coming July 8
Posted in Worms by SupSuper at 10/06/15 4:34pm CEST

Team17 has announced they're gonna remaster the black sheep of the 2D worms games, Worms World Party. It's always held a bit of an awkward position next to its much more popular and supported older brother, Worms Armageddon, but now with both of them being available on Steam, the WA vs WWP arguments can live on!

Mac Release for Worms Revolution
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 06/06/13 3:32am CEST

Own a Mac? want to play the slightly disappointing Worms Revolution? You're in luck! A "Deluxe Edition" is available on the Mac App Store priced at £14.99 in the UK and $20.99 in the US. That pricing for a limited time only - the price goes up once their launch sale ends, though Team17 doesn't say specifically when that is.

The Deluxe Edition contains all of the preorder DLC as well as the three DLC packs released so far. Somehow I doubt the Mac version will see that fourth DLC pack in the works for the PC version, but in fairness I have my doubts as to whether the PC version will get that DLC either. Time will tell.

Worms Revolution Headed to Retail in Europe
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 10/04/13 3:47pm CEST

Mastertronic, who have a long and storied history of rereleasing Team17 titles, have posted an entry on their website for yet another retail release of an Xbox Live Arcade title - this time a collection featuring Worms Revolution. Titled Worms: The Revolution Collection, the package states it will include "All 3 DLC Packs", which rather contradicts Team17's plans for a fourth DLC pack that they claim to have been working on for the last few months.

The pack is also to include Worms 2: Armageddon plus 5 DLC packs, which (and I'm just speculating here) probably includes the Battle Pack plus the five individual DLC packs that aren't the free "Mayhem Pack". Either that or they've just chosen five of the seven available DLC packs for the game. Or Mastertronic can't count.

The cover art is atrocious, by the way, but then that's nothing new - Team17 don't know how to do cover art anymore, and the thumbnails they put together for their digital releases translate exceptionally poorly to physical product. Also of note: Team17 and Mastertronic's decision to make this an Xbox 360 exclusive - previous collections put out by Mastertronic have been released for the PS3 as well, but negative fan reaction to the sluggish framerate and poor controls on the PS3 version may well have scuppered any plans to push it out to retail.

The Revolution Collection is priced at £24.99, and can be preordered from Sold-Out.co.uk, or from Amazon.co.uk for £24.

Also of note: The US version of Xbox.com now has an entry for the Worms Collection. This collection, previously released in Europe by Mastertronic, is being brought to the US by Maximum Games and includes the XBLA versions of Worms, Worms 2: Armageddon, and Worms: Ultimate Mayhem. Xbox.com doesn't list a release date, and it's possible this release might actually be cancelled.

Worms Armageddon Now Available to Purchase on Steam!
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 19/03/13 1:26pm CET

That's right, arguably the finest entry in the series is now available to buy on Steam. Team17's asking price is a bit steep - pricing for the UK region is £11.99, more than twice the price of the Sold Out Worms 2 + Worms Armageddon bundle, while US customers are being charged $14.99, which is slightly more reasonable when compared to the similarly-priced and significantly less content-filled Worms Revolution.

If you already own Worms Armageddon and don't want to have to bugger about with your CD-ROM anymore, the price point might be something of a turn-off. If you're a relative newbie to the series, introduced by recent titles such as Worms Reloaded and , I suppose you have to decide whether you're willing to pay a price like this for a 14 year-old PC game.

For those wondering, the Steam version should be kept up to date with new patches and will run on modern systems. It even plays nice with Wine if you're the sort of sadist who uses Linux.

Yet More WormsDC Content Added
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 15/06/12 12:31am CEST

We've added some more content for you

Firstly, three packs of game content. You may be vaguely aware of my attempts to take the Worms Armageddon terrain styles and downconvert them for use in WormsDC. Well, the first five terrains from my attempts to do so are now available as a downloadable zip file.

I also discovered, to my surprise and excitement, that I'm not the only person who's been working on this very thing - a fella by the alias of AceMan has been doing exactly the same thing, only with slightly better results. He's released two content packs so far including terrain styles and maps from Worms Armageddon, so that's nice. He also took the Magic Woods and Ice Cave terrains from Superfrog and converted them for use in WormsDC too.

All of the above content is available from the WormsDC downloads page.

Finally, a bit of an odd rarity: In 1996 an unofficial "expansion pack" of sorts for the original Worms was released, entitled "Oh Yes! More Worms". The CD contained a bunch of custom maps and alternate speechbanks. Unfortunately almost all of the content included on the disc is absolutely terrible, but it originates from a time before sharing data on the internet was the norm. For an Amiga users in 1996, collections like this were the only way to get access to other fan-made material. It's awful, and included here for completionists and enthusiasts. This ISO was sourced from the English Amiga Board, whom I love with all my heart, probably.

"Oh Yes! More Worms" can be downloaded from the Worms download page.

Oh, and I'm in the process of uploading the complete ISO for CUCD7, for the true completionists among you. It'll be up and on the website in about an hour or so. - Update - it's now available

New Worms: The Director's Cut Content Uploaded
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 13/06/12 10:58pm CEST

In February '97, Amiga magazine CU Amiga included some additional content for Worms: The Director's Cut on their cover-mounted CD-ROM. Intended to serve as an expansion pack of sorts for the game, it included new custom levels and mountain sets, as well as the CD audio tracks and FMV sequences featured in the CD-ROM versions of the original Worms.

Unfortunately support for CUCD7 was never included with the finished game, and despite intending to include support in a patch that sadly never happened, so much of the content - save for the additional maps and mountain sets - ended up being useless.

Fortunately, we've been able to collect that data in one nifty little zip file for you. You can now download it from WormsDC's Downloads page.

Worms Revolution gets classy
Posted in Worms by SupSuper at 05/05/12 6:14am CEST

That's right, Worms is jumping into this new-fangled thing called classes. Worms Revolution will feature 4 classes you can have on your team, each has different pros/cons but they all have access to the same weapons, and you can mix and match classes in your team however you see fit. If this is too much for you there'll still be a Classic mode.

Soldier - Your traditional classic worm. Nothing special about him, he's just the average all-rounder these games always gotta have.

Scientist - The support guy. He's the weakest and slowest, but he raises your team's health for every turn he's around. He can also deploy stronger items, making his Sentry Guns and Electromagnets more effective.

Heavy - Causes the most damage, but his bigger size also makes him the easiest to hit. His heavy bulk makes him much harder to get around the map, even with the help of utilities, but it also means he won't get pushed around as much.

Scout - The most agile, being able to easily get around the map with faster movement and bigger jumps, as well as taking less fall damage. However he causes less damage, and his small size makes him a lot easier to push around the map, although it also makes him harder to hit.

After around half an year, a Worms Ultimate Mayhem update arrives! It includes various bugfixes and performance improvements, as well as the Worms 3D maps the community has been pretty much demanding since release.

...I'm not sure why. They still look and play as bad (if not worse) as they did 10 years ago. This is what makes a remake worth it, keeping all the lousy features of the past?

Team17 have released the first screenshots for the upcoming Worms game for XBLA, which seems to be called "Worms 2: Armageddon" now. At least for the XBLA version.

I wonder if the PC version that'll come out later will be called the same, because that might cause some confusion with Worms 2 from 1997 and Worms Armageddon from 1999.

Also, there are screenshots for the new Worms PSN title.

In addition, Spadge confirmed to VG247 that the PSN title will contain the Holy Handgrenade.

Worms: A Space Oddity fails to impress Veteran Wormers
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 09/04/08 9:38pm CEST

Which is largely unsurprising really, considering it isn't aimed at us. It's aimed at people who haven't played a Worms game before. Team 17 had announced that the game would only have 17 weapons and yet knowing this Wormers are still going out to buy the game only to complain about the limited arsenal some minutes later. Unfortunately it's the Veterans who are the most vocal on the Team 17 forum. Go fig.

I personally haven't picked up the game, considering it came out just before I went back to England to visit family, but I imagine I'll pick it up fairly soon. It seems fairly pricey for a Wii game (compared to other games in the States, I mean). Once I have it I'll write a full, impartial review. Then I'll throw that in the bin and write a proper one.

IGN posts Worms retrospective, uses Dream17 content
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 18/03/08 3:59am CET

A Worms Retrospective has been posted on IGN, and they've been rather cheeky and used one of our Total Wormage screenshots without asking us or crediting us. Which is nice.

Look familiar?

The article also has occasional bits of misinformation, such as the claim that the franchise has been going for "over twenty years" and then go on to say Andy designed the version version of the game in 1990, which is less than twenty years ago. They also claim that Worms 3D came out in 1999, a good couple of years before the GameCube and PS2 even hit the market. Have a read of the article yourself and see if you can spot any more inaccuracies.

Worms: A Space Oddity release soon
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 10/03/08 11:55pm CET

Worms: A Space Oddity is apparently due for release very soon. The Nintendo US website has the game listed for a March 11th release, while Amazon US lists it as March 17th. This appears consistent with the US release of Worms Open Warfare 2, which Amazon US had listed as coming out a week after its retail release elsewhere.

Interestingly, Amazon UK lists the game as having a March 28th release, which if accurate means this is the second Team 17 game to see a release outside of the UK first. The previous title was Lemmings PS3.

Worms XBLA wins an award which isn't an award
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 04/03/08 6:49pm CET

Calling it the Xbox Live Arcade Awards is at least 30% inaccurate. Three of the "awards" - "Best-Selling Game," "Most-Played Game" and "Highest-Rated Game" - aren't awards at all. No special consideration needs to be made to give those particular awards to anyone. All you need to do is look at the numbers and the person with the highest one wins that £5 WH Smith Gift Certificate.

Still, developing the most-played Xbox Live Arcade game of 2007 is definitely something to get excited about. Worms for Xbox Live was that game, which is fantastic. It's still one of the most-played Xbox Live games overall, I believe (the last time I checked it was in sixth place) proving that the 2D side of the franchise still has some sticking power despite Team 17's reluctance to release any further content or fix any of the glaring bugs that the game has. Well done, Team 17.

WWP N-Gage: The Second-Worst Trailer You'll See Today

I'm trying rather hard to forget about the awful trailer for Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust. Fortunately GameTrailers.com also has a trailer for the upcoming 2008 release of Worms World Party for Nokia's relaunched N-Gage service. The trailer can be found here.

The trailer itself looks very, very fake, but the game itself seems as though it may be legit. We've reported on a new mobile Worms game before, and it looks like this might well be it. Why, then, Team 17 didn't get Two Tribes to develop this version as well, I'll never know. Still, I shall be making inquiries...

Worms 3D Mac Contest Winner Announced!
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 26/01/08 8:02pm CET

My my, you are a cheeky lot. I had more than a few people send me multiple answers to the question. Where that's been done I've accepted the first answer only... and no one got it on the first time! Shocking.

Quite a few people simply looked up the answer on Wikipedia and decided that there were 13 games. Nice try, but it isn't right - especially when you can get the answer quite easily by checking out the Softography+ page on this very site.

The correct answer based on the criteria I set is 17. That includes Worms, Worms Reinforcements, Worms: The Directors Cut, Worms 2, Worms Armageddon, Worms Pinball, Worms World Party, Worms Blast, Worms 3D, Worms Forts: Under Siege, Worms 4: Mayhem, Worms Open Warfare, Worms XBLA, Worms Open Warfare 2, OnlineWorms, Worms World Party Aqua, and Worms for Sky Digital. For those of you wondering why Worms and Reinforcements United doesn't count, it's a compilation of two pre-existing titles.

As I said, no one got the answer. But the person who guessed the closest - 16 - is Ashley Day. Congratulations! A copy of Worms 3D for the Mac will be on its way to you soonish.

No online play for Wii Worms
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 18/01/08 11:52pm CET

Team17 and THQ recently announced that Worms: A Space Oddity will not feature online play, because the game is best played when you can see and interact with your opponent. Which is, y'know, a bit silly really, considering that Worms Open Warfare 2 offers one of the best online experiences on the Nintendo DS so far.

Martyn Brown had this to say on the official Team17 Forum:
We realise there's been some disappointment over the fact that Worms: A Space Oddity for Wii has no online play, with that in mind, we'd like to say the following.

Team 17 has proven it can deliver a world class online gaming experience through the popular Worms: Open Warfare 2. THQ and Team 17 believe that Worms: A Space Oddity is a social gaming experience that is best enjoyed locally, in a party-game atmosphere with other players.

We've chosen to focus on making the best possible local multiplayer experience through fast-paced gameplay and entertaining party-games. Players will get even more fun and satisfaction from being able to see the reaction of their friends and taunting them with attacks face-to-face.

That's pretty much how I feel about multiplayer Worms - it's much better to play with someone in the same room as you - but I can't help but feel as though this is spin to cover for the fact that they may be having trouble with, or simply don't have, the Nintendo Wifi SDK. Still, Worms Open Warfare has proven that if an offline-only Worms game does well the potential lies for an online-enabled sequel down the road, so we'll see what happens.

Mostly I'm still concerned that A Space Oddity appears to be based on the Worms Open Warfare engine used for the PSP versions of the handheld game (and also Worms XBLA), which has an inferior physics engine to the engine used for Worms 2 engine (more recently used for the DS version of Worms Open Warfare 2), but that's just me. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Worms 3D Mac UA patch imminent
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 13/12/07 5:09pm CET

We've not devoted a tremendous amount of attention to the Mac here at Dream17. But, being fair, there have only ever been three Team17 games for the Mac, and they're all Worms titles, and it's one of those titles we're reporting on today.

Feral Interactive have recently announced that there will shortly be UA patches released for their Mac titles. Mac users will more than likely already know what UA means, for but those of you who know bugger-all about Macs, UA is an Apple term for software that runs at full speed on both a PPC Mac and those spangly new Intel Macs. The first three titles to receive the UA patch are Ford Racing 2, Bionicle and, of course, Worms 3D.

As soon as the patch is available we'll let you know.

Online imposters!
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 05/09/07 8:34pm CEST

It appears as though someone is playing on Worms Armageddon's WormNET claiming to be Andy Davidson. Furthermore he appears to be making claims that a new 2D Worms title is in the works. It's unlikely to be Andy himself, as he parted ways with Team17 in 1999, shortly after the release of WA, and has had no direct involvement with the development of any Worms games since then. If Team17 are working on a new 2D Worms title it is unlikely (although not impossible) that Andy would be involved in its development as it appears he didn't leave T17 on good terms. Even so, Andy likely has his hands full with the ibar at the moment.

In addition to this, Martyn Brown (Team17's Creative Director, as you may know) has reported someone playing using his name on the DS version, which is currently impossible as his copy of the DS version hasn't arrived yet.

As a rule, I'd advise taking anythin people say online with a pinch of salt. If they claim to be Andy Davidson, or Spadge, or David Duchovny, or David Tennant, just nod and smile and get on with the game. Chances are you're playing some pimple-faced pre-pubescent attention-seeker with nothing better to do.

US release date unchanged - Amazon getting late shipment
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 02/09/07 6:19pm CEST

Having done some investigative work, it appears that the American release date for Worms Open Warfare 2 has gone unchanged. In fact it appears that Amazon.com are the only company who have changed their day, which is roughly two weeks after everyone else has theirs. Best Buy still list the release date for both versions (DS and PSP) as September 6th while GameStop lists their release date at the 4th. I would advise against American customers placing their order with GameStop as they have done a magnificent job of ensuring I can't give them any of my money either online or in their retail outlets, and would encourage our US-based readers to visit either their local independent videogame store, or to make their purchase at Best Buy.

There are a number of reasons why Amazon.com may be getting their shipment later than everyone else, ranging from stock issues with the distributor to an outstanding debt owed by Amazon to THQ. Either way, most games make the majority of their money during the first two weeks of their release, and as Amazon.com are rather stupidly not releasing the game during those two weeks, they're not likely to make much of a profit from the sale of WOW2. Ho hum.

WOW2 US Release Date Pushed Back - UPDATED
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 31/08/07 8:59pm CEST

According to Amazon.com, the American release of both the DS and PSP versions of Worms Open Warfare 2 has been pushed back to September 18th. This has obviously not impacted the UK release, which is today. You lucky people.

Updated: Sept 1st 2007 [at] 8:34pm BST
A number of other US online retailers are still listing the release date as December 6th, and a GameStop employee has given a date of September 5th although I have little faith in GameStop to give anyone any kind of accurate information about anything ever. I'll keep you updated.

THQ announce Worms: A Space Oddity
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 31/08/07 5:04am CEST

Earlier during the day (the day in question being Thursday), THQ announced that Team17 were in the midsts of developing Worms: A Space Oddity, a Wii-exclusive Worms title. We've added a Softography+ entry for it, and obviously we'll continue to update you as we get information from both Team17 and THQ.

In addition IGN have some spectular videos of Worms Open Warfare 2 DS in action that you might want to check out by clicking here. From what I can see, it definitely looks better than WOW1 did for the DS, and it seems to outperform the PSP version in terms of physics...

Worms Open Warfare 2 UK Commercial
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 20/08/07 4:35pm CEST

You've gotta love Martyn Brown. Earlier he posted a link on his blog to a YouTube vide of the Worms Open Warfare 2 commercial that is running in the UK. Fancy watching it now? Okay, here y'go:

It's interesting how they've put more faith and emphasis on the Nintendo DS version. When the original Worms Open Warfare was released, THQ seemed almost oblivious to the fact that they were even putting out a DS version (the THQ Press Extranet still lacks screenshots of the DS version). I think that alone is likely a testament to just how good a job TwoTribes has done with the DS version of WOW2.

More Worms on the way
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 18/08/07 4:16pm CEST

Spadge mentioned on his blog today there there is "more Wormy stuff in the works too, which will arrive sometime in 2008... but more news on that at a later date." Which is to be expected, of course. Read the blog entry here.

Worms Open Warfare 2 Release Date & Demo
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 17/08/07 5:45pm CEST

Team17 have announded a simultaneous UK/US release date of August 31st for both the DS and PSP versions of WOW2. This is the intended street date and is still subject to change for whatever reason. It's also worth noting that games are, for whatever reason, rarely available on their street date in the US, so those of us living in America will probably have to wait an extra couple of days.

THQ UK have also made a demo available, which you can now download from Dream17.

Classic Worms info required
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 06/06/07 12:09am CEST

I'm currently after as much information as possible about the original Amiga release of Worms, specifically with regards to custom maps. For example, I know that you can add a string of numbers prior to the file extension (e.g. "FILENAME.1234.WRM") which affect gravity, friction, water colour and sky colour, but I'm not sure how these work specifically or what numbers do which.

This is not for Dream17, but rather for another project I'm involved in. If you can help, or you can at least point me in the right direction, drop me an email.

Worms XBLA DLC arriving May 30th
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 26/05/07 5:14pm CEST

According to this fantastic T17 Forum post by Team 17 staffer "Pickles", as well as the Latest News page on Team17.com, the downloadable content for Worms XBLA will be made available on Wednesday 30th [at] 9:00am GMT.

There will be three new landscape themes available - Hell (150 Points), Jungle (150 Points), and Space (free) - as well as a 360 Dashboard Theme (150 Points), Gamer Pictures (100 Points for a 5-pack, 200 Points for a 12-pack), and a free Speechbank pack. Unfortunately the list of Speechbanks doesn't include my personal favourite, "Team17 Test". Oh well.

The aforementioned thread appears to have turned into a debate concerning Xbox Live DLC content pricing, which is worth a read (and perhaps even worth contributing towards, if you're registered there).

Worms XBLA downloadable content arriving on a Friday
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 25/05/07 4:53pm CEST

So apparently I misinterpreted Spadge's blog. The DLC announcement is being made on Wednesday, with the actual content being made available on "a Friday." Which Friday, specifically, we don't know.

Worms XBLA update, DLC, leaderboard wipe
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 21/05/07 10:02pm CEST

SPadge has posted some info about the Worms XBLA update coming out this Wednesday, as well as some additional info about downloadable content. You can read the blog entry, or, if you're lazy, you can read this newspost instead.

As the Ranked Scheme is going to be adjusted come the update this Wednesday, the Leaderboards are being completely wiped. Not one to let people lose their glory, Team 17 are currently in the process of sending out signed awards to the top-ranking players, so they will at least have something to prove their awesomeness.

Downloadable Content will become available next Wednesday. No word yet on what, exactly, that content will be.

Worms Open Warfare 2 Concrete Donkey Video

It seems a little slow-moving in comparison to the Donkey's appearances in Worms - The Director's Cut onwards. You can download the video in WMV format here should you feel the need.

Worms XBLA Update due Wednesday
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 17/05/07 8:39pm CEST

According to a recent blog post by Spadge, the eagerly-awaited update for Worms XBLA is due to hit Xbox Live on Wednesday 23rd May, which is good news for those of you who have been complaining about those little niggles in the game.

The update fixes a number of minor issues, including the "People trying to connect after the game is full" glitch, the jammy AI grenade shots, and the fixed mine fuse. It also fixes a large list of Other Things, which you can read by clicking here.

Worms Open Warfare DS for £12.75
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 12/05/07 3:06pm CEST

Eagle-eyed pricewatch blog SavyGamer is reporting that you can snag the original Worms Open Warfare for £12.75 from Foxy.co.uk. You can find the product here priced £13.75, and get a further £1 off from this page.

The DS version of WOW, developed by GameSauce, isn't particularly good - especially when compared to the in-house developed PSP version - but it's a good opportunity to get some DS Worms action before the release of Two Tribes DS port of Worms Open Warfare 2.

There's an interesting interview with Kevin Carthew, Lead Designer of Worms Open Warfare 2 DS, over at DS-x2.com.

The interview contains lovely little snippets of information. Information on the new online modes (ropers will be pleased to know that Race modes are an actual play type in online games), how the new weapons work, and a variety of other bits and bobs are discussed. It's definitely worth a read.

We've also got a fairly large version of the WOW2 logo up as a temporary boxart image. It's almost as if we're organised or something...

WOW2 DS being developed externally
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 20/04/07 3:13pm CEST

So it appears that the DS version of Worms Open Warfare 2 is being developed in partnership between Team 17 and a company called Two Tribes, based in Holland. According to Spadge, Two Tribes were the team behind the N-Gage version of Worms World Party, which is widely felt to be the definitive handheld Worms title (at least, by the seven people who owned an N-Gage).

Two Tribes look to be doing a much better job this time around, and I'm looking forward to seeing the results, as well as seeing how they compare to the PSP version.

More WOW2 info
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 19/04/07 7:01pm CEST

We've updated our Softography+ entry for Worms Open Warfare 2 with more information, including improved customisation.

I have to say, the DS version looks very swanky when compared to that of the original. Also, the fact that both the PSP and DS versions will feature online wifi play is perhaps the best news I've heard concerning this title. Fantastic news, even.

Worms Open Warfare 2 release announced
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 18/04/07 9:44pm CEST

THQ and Team 17 have officially announced that Worms Open Warfare 2 will be released for both the DS and the PSP this August. Spadge pointed to the official website, which doesn't appear to work in Firefox for some reason - it works in IE, which is a bit weird as it's just a Flash website. I imagine THQ will fix that eventually.

More information will follow soon, but it looks like both versions will feature online wifi play. Superb!

Worms: Open Warfare
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 04/04/07 7:20pm CEST

Hey, if the BBC can stick unnecessary quotation marks in their news headlines, so can I.

Martyn Brown (Spadge, obv.) mentioned on his blog today that a follow-up to Worms: Open Warfare is in development.

"News is spilling out about an upcoming handheld version of Worms (a follow up to Open Warfare) which will be out in the Summer - not much I can say about that until THQ's PR machine have had their say, but it's all good Smile

I know people think all we do is Worms, but that's not really the case, honest! It just seems that way when other projects are unannounced.
"

No word yet on any of the new game's content, but it's probably safe to assume that it contains new weapons and is probably based on the same code (Still) as W:OW and Worms XBLA.

Worms XBLA update
Posted in Worms by Cyclaws at 22/03/07 5:43pm CET

Spadge has this to say about the progress of an update for Worms on XBLA:

"I'd just like to say that most of the issues reported so far have already been fixed and are currently being tested prior to resubmission of our update code. We'll need for that to be tested and recertified before it goes live. I'll update again when we have timings on that.

The 4player lobby issue (5th player joining causing host lock and other player problems), a few minor leaderboard things, the rope weapon stuff, the jetpac fall damage, etc are all sorted out.

Additionally, the AI has been sorted out, it now takes 1-2 secs max for the AI to think. (our apologies for that). As a result, the challenges can be completed much faster. Also, we stopped the AI doing those crazy, unnervingly accurate grenade shots too...

We're currently not sure if this means the leaderboards will reset or not, I'd probably propose that they're left alone since the times can be beaten (and not the other way). The bizarre issue that leads to times of zero will be fixed, obviously Smile

The first DLC is around the corner with a total of 6-7 new visual themes coming through the spring/summer... so look out for that. 30+ voice sets are on the way too.

Keep on wormin'"

Worms on a Budget, and XBLA performance
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 14/03/07 8:09pm CET

As you may well know, UK retailers GAME have a variety of special offers for their budget PC titles. One of these offers is "Two for £15 (or £9.99 each)", and Worms 4: Mayhem has recently been placed in this offer. This means that you can stroll into GAME and pick up Worms 2, Worms Armageddon, Worms World Party, Worms 3D and Worms 4: Mayhem for £20. Assuming Worms Forts: Under Siege is also in the "2 for £15" offer, you could pick up all six games for £25, which is not a bad price.

Meanwhile, Worms XBLA has been available for over a week now and remains one of the most played games available on Xbox Live Arcade, despite some problems with online play. The game seems to be receiving almost unanimous praise from the Live Arcade community, although there have been stirring from the minor but very vocal "OLOLOL MORE WEAPONS KTHNXBAI" crowd over on the official Team 17 Forum. Most people are more disappointed with the limited amount of music, speechbanks and terrain styles than with the "classic" weapon set. Martyn Brown has confirmed that there is downloadable content on the way for Worms XBLA, including Gamer pictures and Dashboard themes. No word on additional weapons, but then most of the people I've played the game with have said they actually prefer the limited weapon set, as it makes the game more challenging.

There's also a bit of a brouhaha on the Team 17 Forum about whether or not Team 17 should be allowed to charge for additional content for the game. I've said in the past that I wouldn't mind paying minimal fees for some of the additional content, for example 20-50 points (less than 50p) for speechbank packs, 50-80 points (less than £1) for terrain style packs, however the ball is ultimately in Microsoft's court with regards to the charges. I would prefer that additional music is free, mind - Team 17 used a piece of music from Worms Armageddon and it is unfortunately one of the more annoying tracks. It's times like these that I'm glad I have the Worms 2 Soundtrack on CD - I can rip it to the 360 and simply have that playing in the background instead.

It's taken a while, but Spadge has reported that Worms XBLA has finally passed Microsoft's certification process and should be up on Xbox Live Arcade some time soonish. Ideally this would be tomorrow, but I think that's wishful thinking.

Worms XBLA
Posted in Worms by Squirminator2k at 06/02/07 1:16am CET

I don't know how I missed this - Worms XBLA is now completely finished, which is probably why it's now appearing on Microsoft's February release list. At the end of January, Martyn Brown wrote on his blog, "The game is actually out of the test loop and awaiting the full greenlight to go Live, but as mentioned in other posts, if it's ok then we'll pop into the schedule - we don't just go out straight away."

It's interesting to see how Live Arcade titles are developed, and now Team 17 have been through the process their next title may well be out at the intended time.
