The Team17 Softography Says...
"They’re back, they’re cute and deadlier than ever!
Enter the bizarre and fantastic cartoon world of Worms 2. Wreak havoc on your rivals, in a game of revenge and petty-minded cruelty. Humiliate your friends, take revenge on your family, annihilate complete strangers - Worms 2 is frenetic, frenzied fun.
Worms 2 uses over 14,000 frames of animation, recreating a cartoon style environment in which you can make more comic mayhem than ‘Acme’ ever thought possible. With 16-bit audio and a programmable game ‘jukebox’ the game truly comes alive on screen. You can even change the soundfx that your Worms emit during battle.
From a few minutes to a few years, the strategic scope of Worms 2 is just enormous."
Dream17 says...
Losing the darker tones of the first generation of Worms games in exchange for a new cartoony look and feel, this game is essentially WormsDC with big brass bells on. It plays like a dream, looks absolutely stunning, but unfortunately Team17 were a little overgenerous when it came to options and settings and such. Choosing the amount of weapons and toggling all of the gameplay aspects has become a gloriously complex affair, but it's all worth it. The game even features Single Player missions (which are really just "Kill or be killed" missions, and not the wonderfully in-depth missions seen in Worms Armageddon or World Party). In all this is a great game, arguably the best step forward for the series.
With the success of the original Worms, a sequel (a real sequel, unlike Worms United) was inevitable. Team17 chose to release this version exclusively for the PC, although there were rumours in some games magazines such as Games Master in the UK that a PSone version was also in development.
The entire engine was redesigned using Microsoft's DirectX. New graphics, new level types, new weapons (most of which are from WormsDC) and a new frontend. This wasn't just a new Worms game, it was an entirely new Worms experience. The graphics were superb. The music was perfect (so good in fact that some Team17 forum-goers used to listen to it on their CD player and Walkman... and yes, so did I). Worms 2 recieved praise in countless gaming magazines and is perhaps one of the best versions of the game too date.
One of the big things about Worms 2 is the Customisation. Some people believed that there were too many options when it came to configuring your own save games. Others believed it was perfect. But there were enough toggles, switches and options in the game to keep someone satified for a long, long time.
