Superfrog!

Post by Pooka » Wed Mar 02, 2005 4:56 am

Just like to say that my site for the greatest game ever...

...which is, by the way, Superfrog...

...is now using this forum as a replacement for its redundant board, since this one is very stylish, and doesn't just discuss Superfrog.

So, Superfrog.

Does anyone else think this is the greatest game ever created, or just me?

Well, I'm not so sure about it being the greatest game, ever but it certainly is a very good platform...

Superfrog: What the hell? Not the best game ever? What is the best game ever then?

Um, well I like Secret of Monkey Island

Superfrog: That stupid game with the wannabe pirate? Come on, dude, my game is way better than that! There's a circus level in my game! Hah! bet there's no circus in your precious Secret of Monkey Island!

Well, actually...

[Explanation: Superfrog was round my house, dropping off the latest batch of Ask Superfrog replies, when I was making the above post. As you can see he wasn't very happy that I didn't agree that Superfrog was the best game of all time. In fact, he was so annoyed that he forced me to play Zoocube for three hours non-stop... HELP!!!]

Yeah? Well, I asked Spud what he thought, and he just said, "......"!

(I prefer Curse of Monkey Island, myself.)

Superfrog is good. It's not Deus Ex good. Or Baldur's Gate (PC version) good. But it is damn good.

As a 2D Platformer Fanboy, I have to say that Superfrog is better than Super Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog. So there.

It's on the Amiga Forever set-up I stuck on your Laptop. Or at least it should be. "Work:Games/Platformers/Superfrog"

I'd buy you a copy but I'm a bit skint at the moment. Team17 barely me give me enough to survive, as it is. Oh well, such is life.

Suffice to say, to anyone who hasn't played the game, get yourself a copy and play it!

Yeah, you'll need to go into the WinUAE Config and change the joystick set-up to a Keyboard Config (Probably No. 2) as it'll be set up for my PlayStation2 Adapter, which, obviously, you don't have. If you have your own USb controller though, whoo.

The ADF version of SuperFrog (4 disks) is not HDInstallable. The IPF version is, but you need a HDInstall patch. AmiNET has taken them down due to issues with illegallity in some countries, but there is a link to a French chap's site on the Dream17 Links page - he makes HDInstalls and he's got tons of 'em.

That said, [Pooka's SUperFrog Site] has the "clean" ADFs dumped straight from the original game disks themselves, so those will work with the HDInstall too.

on the Superfrog topic: yay, a friend of mine got me a copy of the game for pc! :D
though... anyone knows the controls. i don't, and it's rather to play without being able to jump ;)

You need the Workbench 3.1 Kickstart ROM to use that Hard Drive FIle...

There's also an HD Installer in .lha format there.

It might be worth noting that the config I use hasn't mapped Alt as being Jump. That's Up. How confusing. I changed that. At least, I think I did. PC and Amiga versions are so different in some cases it's very confusing.

It's a shame Superfrog never made it into Kinder Surprise eggs.

Discuss.

One thing that will make your website looks better:
Make the font size a bit bigger, and change the colors, maybe the background a little bright, and not a so bright text font.

Well, at the moment it's a better colour scheme than what it used to be, which was the same shade of teal, and dark red for the text! How was that meant to work?! I'll never know.

To be honest, I think it's rather legible as it is. To change it I'd need to go through the entire site, changing every single page. Last time I did that, it took yonks.

Just had to add this: the CD32 version of Superfrog (with animated intro/ending) is available at Back 2 the Roots.

Edit: By the way, Superfrog beats any Mario or Sonic game hands-down, which makes it possibly the best platformer ever made. There you have it. :)
