Team17 forum attachments

Post by StepS » Mon Jun 10, 2013 11:47 am

hey guys
Since the Team17 forum is going to close down, I was afraid that the attached files wouldn't be accessible anymore (or at least impossible to view for newcomers), so I downloaded the whole Team17 forum and retrieved all of the public attachments (perhaps there were some private attachments in admin sections, I can't be sure)
Currently it's uploaded here: http://myfiles.my1.ru/t17archive/

:)

How the fudge did you download the ENTIRE forum? Do you have a massive extended Chinese family?

well, with the attachments it was a bit tough because they require you to be logged in. therefore I had to use the browser. generated thirty five thousand URLs and then used Firefox, frames and plugins as it's the only one to sustain the data just fine.
since I got the new router I can now finally use my 50/50 Mbit channel ;)
also made a home  http://myfiles.my1.ru/t17archive/
and added a direct link (hosted by MEDVEDx64).
maybe later I'll make an FTP folder with the contents of the archive extracted, so you could see and choose particular files without downloading the whole archive

Sweet!

Uh, I haven't downloaded the archive, but is the author's name included in the filename or something similar?

do you mean the pictures' authors? unfortunately it's naturally impossible to write each author for each filename (also given that the attachments were fetched using a set of IDs), but at least we keep the filenames intact so they could easily be found in a team17 threads archive (assuming that the threads themselves stay alive, or at least available through a web archive/cache). if the file's author finds something abusive, there's a small info on bottom of the home page.

if several filenames have the same name, it will be:
  • for pictures: "_001" and so on at the name's end, and the extension always lowercase (png, gif, bmp, jpeg)
  • for other files: "(1)" and so on at the name's end.
this is due to the tools I used. I could have used another system but maybe later

archive size is 143 mb.

Hmm...
Now I'm thinking of snatching the whole T17 forum and moving it elsewhere to continue.

Given these attachments were what caused most of T17F's database crashes, I'd worry about carrying over their curse with them. :P

It's probably missing OD attachments since OD is invite only. Unless he has access to OD. Does he? :p

So

I tried to back up the entire Team17 forum.

It broke the database for a few hours.

I decided to be less ambitious and back up a text-only copy of each thread from the Team17 forum archive.

As far as I am aware, it worked.

Grab it here: http://tim32.org/~muzer/t17archive.tar.bz2 - a surprisingly small archive of 25MB.

(Tarred and Bzip2-compressed to save my precious HDD space; those crazy Windows users should be able to use 7-Zip to get inside it)

EDIT: Oops, I broke it. For some reason the links don't seem to point to the correct places; I could have sworn wget converted them. Ah well, it's not hard to type the URLs manually. I'll script something up to fix it later. For now, be thankful! :p

good work! I haven't thought about archiving the "archive" heh :D
I made a backup as well but most of the oldest threads are inaccessible because...
21:49:08 Panic: Too many URLs, giving up..(>100000)
pfff.
will upload soon (maybe)
oh, or it will be an archive instead... because of my site's FTP Limitations :-| so I may ask someone else to do it

------------

hey man! I fixed link associations in your pages, and added index.html
Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?8o2d96gc6td2qa1
Apparently the format of your pages is identical to mine, but my folders are filled with lots of unprocessed .tmp files because of the program's url panic, so thanks for this.
"View full version" links replaced with .co.uk in case they work :)

Brilliant, thanks! Saves me a bit of time. I'm reuploading it as we speak so that people don't have to use mediafire.

If you need some place to put all this up without limitations, worMatty might have some bandwidth to spare.

hey guys. me and Muzer have some good news: the forum attachments are still alive on .co.uk. So there's a chance to retrieve OD attachments now.
Currently retrieved: 1 :D
perhaps Muzer will make his own attachments archive, today or tomorrow, since we can't find the correct IDs.

Apologies for the delay, I needed more HDD space (which I now have). Here are the attachments including ones from OD:

http://tim32.org/~muzer/t17-archive/attachments/

If you need me to archive it up let me know, I'll need to do some magic for case-sensitivity if so.
