I know this topic is a little old but anyways... congrats Vader.

Also, something caught my eye from their about page:

"Founded in 1999, Babel is one of the major drivers behind the growth of outsourcing in the games and interactive entertainment industries."

They outsource jobs. Isn't that a bad thing?

Only if you live in a developed country.

I think it's a good thing.

By out-sourcing they eliminate the need for a developer to spend money on QA staff and equipment and management. This in turn allows the developer to spend more on the games the are making. There are a huge number of staff at Babel, which highlights the fact that the employment numbers are affected only in a positive way.

Besides, it means I get to play loads of lovely games from a variety of developers! Sweeeet

Pardon my stupidity, but what exactly is a QA Tester?

QA = Quality Assurance. Not sure exactly what it entails, though.

Run the program, see if it works right. If something doesn't work right, write up a report about it. Repeat. Fun job if you are testing games. Not so much fun if you are testing word processors.

It means I have to play a game and try to find/regress bugs. I'm a functionality tester, meaning I test the functionality of a game in a large team of people.

Recently we did some focus testing of an undisclosable game from an undisclosable company on an undisclosable platform - exciting, no?!

The NDA must really annoy you.

The NDA is okay until I get home and have to give my girlfriend a vague reply when she says "how was your day?".
I mean, I spent 8 hours a day at work, and I can talk to people about anything in work, so it's all good really.

Yesterday I was playing an undisclosable game which wont be released until [censored]

Yay!

That's the one thing I'd dread about being a QA tester -- testing games I couldn't stand playing.

And that, my friends, is why you don't do QA at THQ.
