Zip Download issues
Posted in Archived by Squirminator2k at 16/05/06 12:05am CEST

We've become aware that downloading Zip files is ending prematurely in some cases, resulting in corrupted downloads. It's usually a combination of Internet Explorer and dial-up internet, but we've had a few reports of broadband Firefox users, so that's that theory out of the window. It's likely a temporary server-side issue, and we're working to get this issue sorted, but in the meantime it might be worthwhile using a download manager such as GetRight, which automatically detects when a download has ended early and resumes it from the last successful downloaded bit.

Works fine for me on Opera.

Never had any problems with Crazy Browser/AM Browser.
(Though it is actually using MSIE and I have a LAN connection.)

Mm, I've not had any problems either - but it's something I've had more than a few emails about and so I figured it was worth reporting.

Maybe it's a server issue? Never happened before the server move.

Unlikely, if some people can get it that means the server is allowing the transfer, and the file isn't currupt. I just tested, and it's all working for me. I have no idea what the problem is for those who can't, though.

It's a problem I used to get all of the time on dial-up. Internet Explorer would say that a zip file had finished downloading (usually suddenly leaping from somewhere below 50% to 100% in the process), but when it opened in Winzip it would say "Invalid file" or some such thing.
