Use the unique skills of your Lemmings team to overcome the hazards ahead: the bomber explodes at will, the floater can survive high falls and the basher digs horizontally just when you need it. The climber is at hand for those tricky mountain ranges, the blocker creates an obstacle in the path ahead and the builder is there to construct walkways for his friends.
Stretch your strategies across 100 plus levels as you lead your lemmings across an immense variety of challenging backdrops. Ah yes, Lemmings. Perhaps one of the finest Amiga games of all time. Ported to almost every system known to man, even pocket calculators. And now people can play a wonderful snazzy, new edition of the classic original. All of the original levels from the original 1990s release, redesigned and remastered to take advantage of the PSP's hardware (although no word yet on whether or not it will include the levels paying homage to other titles by original publisher Psygnosis), as well as more than a few brand spanking new ones and a Level Editor. You'll also be able to share your levels with others online.
With original developers DMA Design - now better known as Rockstar North - busy focusing on releasing more Grand Theft Auto games and making sure Bully is as politically incorrect as humanly possible, Sony (who own Psygnosis and, in turn, the Lemmings franchise) have passed the mantle on to Team 17 to develop a fun remake of the original whilst taking full advantage of the PSP's rather snazzy capabilities. Press screenshots certainly look good (the FMV video is slightly too distracting and dark to see how the game plays in motion) but only time will tell whether or not the game is digging a new path of success for the once monolithic franchise, or whether it's stopping, shaking its head, and exploding.
The game was later ported to the PS2, with an additional EyeToy mode (and accompanying levels) created by Rusty Nutz Ltd. The new gameplay mode, which uses modified versions of the original Amiga Lemmings sprites, allows you to use your body to create bridges, flick switches and toss lemmings around levels. It's actually rather fun.
