They said it couldn't be done - taking the 2D formula that makes Worms so popular and entertaining and inflating it like a balloon; giving it a third dimension. Surprisingly, it works - teams of up to 6 worms can move around on a fully deformable landscape, using a ton of various weapons to destroy oneanother. The downside is that, in comparison with the 2D versions of the game, the landscape is rather small, as well as the aiming being a tad fiddly. And since it's release in 2003 Team17 haven't been very good at supporting the game's online playability. The Single Player Missions, however, the by far the best that the series has seen.
Some people don't like this game because of it's "lego" style approach to deformable landscape, using a combination polygon/voxel (or poxel) Engine that I think works rather well. It's not as good as, say, Worms Armageddon, but it's a start. Worms in 3D can be better, but this is only the beginning...
